Alice by Heart

In the rubble of the London Blitz, Alice Spencer takes shelter in an underground station with her childhood friend Alfred. When Alfred’s illness forces him into quarantine, Alice invites him to escape with her into their treasured copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, transforming the people around them into the familiar figures of Lewis Carroll’s world.

As Wonderland bends around the dangers and losses of wartime London, Alice must face the possibility that imagination cannot keep every painful change away. With a sweeping score and boldly theatrical storytelling, Alice by Heart explores first love, grief, and the courage it takes to carry a beloved story forward without remaining trapped inside it.
